Bangladesh: The Rohingya are displaced, persecuted, not refugees

Dhaka (UNA) - Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Moamen affirmed that his country views the Rohingya as displaced people, not as refugees, in a clarification of Dhaka's position, coinciding with the World Bank's announcement of a global program to integrate refugees into host countries. Abdul Momen said in statements to the press in the capital, Dhaka: The Rohingya are not refugees here... They are persecuted and displaced people, and they are sheltering here temporarily. Abdulmoumen stressed that Dhaka adheres to its position on the need for these persecuted and forcibly displaced Rohingyas to return to their country of origin in Rakhine, Myanmar. Stressing that returning the Rohingya to their homeland is a priority for Bangladesh. He said: There is no chance of Rohingya integration in Bangladesh, instead Dhaka believes that their return to Myanmar will enable them to have a better future. (I finish)
