
Makkah Al-Mukarramah (UNA) - Abu Muhammad Salih bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hussein bin Hamid, his lineage goes back to the well-known tribe of Bani Khalid.
He was born in the city of Buraidah in the Qassim region in 1369 AH, and grew up there and was raised by his father, the learned scholar, the sea of understanding, the jurist, and the memorizer, Sheikh Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Hamid - may God have mercy on him.
His academic achievement:
He was a close friend of his father, and learned from him monotheism, jurisprudence, and the Arabic language. He memorized some texts such as: Kitab al-Tawhid by Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, al-Aqida al-Wasitiyyah by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, al-Aqida al-Saffariniyyah, and in jurisprudence the shortest of summaries, the epic of grammar, and a part of Alfiyyah Ibn Malik. He also read long books such as: Tarikh al-Duwal wa-Ma'athir al-Awal by al-Qarmani, Simt al-Nujum al-Awali by al-'Asami, and Mukhtasar al-Sirah by Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab.
Being with his son - may God have mercy on him - did not allow him to move between sheikhs, although in his youth he read the Book of Monotheism with its commentary Fath al-Majid with Sheikh Muhammad bin Saleh al-Mutawa in Buraidah, and he memorized the Qur’an with him without tajweed. He also studied during his youth during the summer vacations in the school of Sheikh Sulayman al-Razqan.
At the age of fifteen, Sheikh Saleh bin Hamid moved with his father to Mecca, where his father was appointed General President of Religious Supervision of the Grand Mosque in Mecca in 1384 AH.
Memorizing the Qur’an in the Grand Mosque:
He had memorized the Holy Quran in a way that is not available from Sheikh Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Mutawa in Buraidah, and then he completed his memorization with Tajweed in the Grand Mosque at the age of sixteen under the supervision of Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Akbar Shah, the skilled reciter of Tajweed. He had memorized the Holy Quran with Tajweed in the circumambulation area between the two corners, next to the portico, near the muezzin’s loudspeaker.
He is one of the first graduates of the Holy Quran Memorization Society in Makkah Al-Mukarramah - the second batch in 1386 AH.
Sheikh Saleh bin Hamid also studied the principles of inheritance law with Sheikh Abdul Fattah Rawah in the Grand Mosque, and studied logic with Sheikh Abdul Ahad Al Afghani and Sheikh Ibrahim Obaid Al Mohsen.
His formal education:
He completed his primary education at Al-Faisaliah School in Buraidah in 1379 AH.
He also completed his intermediate studies at the intermediate school in Buraidah and obtained a secondary school proficiency certificate in 1383 AH.
When the Sheikh moved with his father to Mecca, he continued his secondary education in the science department at King Abdulaziz Secondary School, graduating in Safar 1387/1386 AH.
After completing his secondary education, he decided to study medicine. He traveled to the city of Shiraz in Iran and joined a government scholarship at Shah Pahlavi University. After staying there for one academic year, he left, preferring to study Sharia. He returned to Makkah to join the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, which was affiliated with the Ministry of Education and later became affiliated with King Abdulaziz University - Makkah Section.
He completed his full-time undergraduate studies at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Department of Sharia and Education, graduating with a grade of “Excellent” and first-class honors on 18/5/1392 AH.
Sheikh Ibn Hamid continued his postgraduate studies and obtained a Master’s degree in Islamic jurisprudence and its principles from Umm Al-Qura University in 1396 AH. The subject of his thesis was: “Restrictions on Ownership in Islamic Sharia.” He also obtained a PhD in Islamic jurisprudence and its principles from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in 1402 AH, with a grade of “Excellent” and first class honours. The subject of his thesis was “Removing Hardship in Islamic Sharia,” which was published by the university.
His Excellency the Khatib of Arafat has academic licenses obtained from well-known scholars, including:
Sheikh Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Hamad Al-Abdullah Al-Hamawi, then Al-Makki, authorized him to recite according to the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim via Al-Shatibiyyah.
Sheikh Muhammad Akbar Shah bin Shah Pir Shah authorized him to recite the narration of Hafs on the authority of Asim via Al-Shatibiyyah.
Sheikh Hamoud bin Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri authorized him to narrate the Hadith of Mercy.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Aqil authorized him to narrate hadiths.
Imamate and preaching in the Grand Mosque:
His Excellency began serving as Imam of the Grand Mosque as a volunteer in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal in the year 1403 AH. He was then appointed Imam and Preacher at the Grand Mosque by an official decree, and began his work starting on the first day of the month of Allah, Muharram in the year 1404 AH. He was recently chosen as the Sheikh of Imams and Preachers of the Grand Mosque.
Scientific lessons in the Grand Mosque and elsewhere:
He began teaching at the Grand Mosque in Dhul-Hijjah 1402 AH, and then royal approval was issued for his appointment as a teacher and Mufti at the Grand Mosque.
His lessons are held daily after the dawn prayer, except for Friday. They cover the following topics: faith, monotheism, jurisprudence, interpretation, rulings, history, and biographies. He takes care of his regular students and follows them up seriously.
He also took an interest in teaching in mosques. After he moved to Riyadh to head the Shura Council, he would teach jurisprudence after sunset on Tuesday nights, and interpretation and biography of the Prophet after dawn on Thursdays at the mosque of His Eminence Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Baz in the Al-Ghadeer neighborhood.
Scientific jobs:
- He worked as a teaching assistant at Umm Al-Qura University.
- Then a lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University
- Then he became an assistant professor at Umm Al-Qura University.
He was assigned to teach and issue fatwas in the Grand Mosque in Mecca on an exceptional basis, pursuant to a royal decree.
He worked as an adjunct professor at the Higher Institute of Justice at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, teaching students in the master’s and doctoral programs.
Participation in scientific conferences at home and abroad.
He has participated in scientific conferences, whether through the Grand Mosque and its affairs, or through Umm Al-Qura University, the Shura Council, or private invitations. He has attended scientific conferences in Egypt, Morocco, Britain, America, France, Pakistan, Malaysia, Kenya, South Africa, Bangladesh, and many other countries around the world.
