The Arab League emphasizes the need to support the Sudanese in ending the war and paving the way for a national dialogue.

Cairo (UNA/WAS) – The Arab League stressed the urgent need to support the Sudanese in stopping the war, preserving their state, and quickly opening the way for a national dialogue in which they own the decision, noting that Sudan does not need anyone to determine its future, or compromises that prolong the war, but rather it needs respect for the will of its people, stopping the bloodshed, and restoring life in its cities and institutions.
The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo stated in a statement yesterday, Wednesday, that the visit of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Nabil Fahmy, to Khartoum aimed to enhance direct communication through meetings with the Sudanese leadership and Sudanese state institutions, and with a wide spectrum of political and civil forces, and allowed to listen to the visions of the Sudanese and to see firsthand the unfortunate effects of the devastating war in the capital, Khartoum.
The statement added that the meetings addressed ways to stop the war, create conditions for a comprehensive national dialogue, address the root causes of the crisis, and support early recovery across the country, which would contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people. It noted that the meetings emphasized that peace cannot be imposed on the Sudanese from the outside, and that dialogue should not be reduced to arrangements between parties or limited elites, but rather should be a Sudanese national process.
It is a broad process in which Sudanese people inside and outside the country participate, and through which civilians shape the future of their country.
The statement noted that the Secretary-General of the Arab League affirmed during the visit the firm Arab position supporting the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and preservation of Sudan’s national institutions, reiterating the Arab League’s readiness, either directly or in cooperation with its partners in the five-party mechanism, to support national efforts aimed at launching a comprehensive Sudanese dialogue led by the Sudanese, as well as the Arab League’s readiness to provide expertise and political and technical support, mobilize humanitarian and development assistance in cooperation with Arab countries and relevant bodies, and support recovery and reconstruction projects.
