Riyadh (UNA/SPA) – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, expressed the Council’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the heinous Iranian attack that targeted the port of Fujairah in the sisterly United Arab Emirates, stressing that this act of aggression represents a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of a member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
He stressed that targeting vital facilities and infrastructure is unacceptable and condemned by all standards, and reflects an escalatory approach that disregards the rules of international law and the principles of good neighborliness, and aims to destabilize the security of the GCC countries and undermine the stability of global energy markets, and poses a direct threat to the security of regional and global supplies, the safety of maritime navigation and international trade.
He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to stop these repeated Iranian attacks and to put an immediate end to the irresponsible actions that undermine regional and international peace and security.
He also reiterated the GCC’s full and unwavering solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, and its unwavering support for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its security, preserve its sovereignty, and safeguard its vital facilities.
