The Consulate General of Lebanon in Jeddah organizes a seminar on the history and similarities of the cities of Tripoli and Jeddah

Jeddah (UNA) - The Consulate General of Lebanon in Jeddah organized today a symposium at the Consulate’s headquarters entitled “Tripoli between the Fragrance of the Past and the Modernity of the Present,” in the presence of the Consul General of Lebanon in Jeddah, Mr. Walid Mankara.

The Consul-General began the symposium by talking about the strong relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, highlighting the great similarities between the cities of Jeddah and Tripoli. He then touched on the history of Tripoli, explaining the secret behind its name, its historical antiquity, its most important resources, and the archaeological landmarks it abounds with.

Dr. Joumana Chahal, President of the Tripoli Heritage Association in Paris, spoke about the historical and cultural value of Tripoli as a model of Arab Islamic heritage, pointing to its social and economic role and its distinction from other Lebanese cities. She reviewed the civilizational stages that the city went through, starting from the Phoenicians, passing through the Greeks, and reaching the present day, in addition to the importance of its geographical location.

For her part, Professor Abeer Abu Suleiman, an expert in Saudi heritage, shed light on the history of Jeddah and the stages of its transformation from a small village to a large Islamic port, which gradually became a commercial gateway linking Europe and North Africa. She also discussed the importance of Jeddah and the similarities between it and Tripoli in terms of historical character and cultural heritage.
