Afghan ministers receive the Malaysian delegation

New Delhi (UNI/Bernama) - Afghan Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani and Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Mottaki received a Malaysian delegation including senior officials from the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Defense and the Prime Minister's Office.

During a meeting in Kabul on Thursday, Haqqani expressed Afghanistan's desire to strengthen relations with Malaysia.

Haqqani told Malaysian officials that Afghans enjoy peace and unity, and that Afghanistan is in control of its own affairs under the interim government.

He stated, “The delegation was informed that Afghanistan wants close relations and interaction with the entire world, especially Islamic countries,” adding, “Malaysia is an advanced Islamic country and we must benefit from experiences that are compatible with our geographical and historical location.” This came in a statement by the Afghan Ministry of Interior, today, Friday.

Malaysia and Afghanistan also discussed cooperation in police training and combating drug trafficking.

In this regard, Dr. Shazelina Zainal Abidin, Undersecretary of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided information to the Afghan side about Malaysia’s experience in the field of cybersecurity and combating digital crimes.

During an interaction with the Afghan Foreign Minister on Wednesday, she said Malaysia is ready to organize training programs for Afghan diplomats and civil servants, according to a statement published on the website of the Afghan Foreign Ministry.

The Minister thanked Malaysia for providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan over the years.

Mottaki highlighted the trade and investment opportunities in Afghanistan to enhance bilateral relations, expressing his country's government's keenness to develop its relations with Southeast Asia.
