Baku (INA) – Academic circles, students and professors of Arabic language and literature in Azerbaijan commemorate the birthday of the great Azerbaijani scientist, Professor Ali Asghar Mammadov, founder of a contemporary linguistic school for teaching Arabic. Professor Ali Asghar Jafar Oglu Muhammedov was born in the town of Kechle in the capital, Baku, on October 1919, XNUMX. The famous scientist participated as a translator in German and Russian in the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg during the period between December 1945 and February 1946 over the criminals of fascist Germany under the direction of the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The scientist devoted most of his life to teaching the Arabic language and modernizing an educational curriculum in the field of Arabicization in Azerbaijan. He established the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at Baku State University, and this is for the first time in Azerbaijan, and he headed it for 29 years. Ali Asghar Mammadov also founded the Arab Countries Department of the Azerbaijan Radio and Television Corporation and closely contributed to the establishment of the Association for Friendship with Arab Countries. The great scholar passed away to his Lord on January 29, 2000. He has more than 30 books for teaching Arabic in Azerbaijani and Russian. Due to his proficiency in the English, Russian and German languages in addition to Arabic, he was able to prepare a new comparative methodology for teaching Arabic, taking advantage of European, Russian and Arabic educational curricula. As a result, students studying on the basis of his books and curricula were able to master Arabic, pronounce it, and translate in writing and orally even in the third year of their studies at the university, and the fact that this was possible after more than 6 years of study in Azerbaijan before the fifties of the twentieth century. His style produced a large generation of Arabists, ambassadors, translators and scholars. As for his books written in Russian to teach Arabic, they spread all over the former Soviet Union and benefited and are still in secondary and higher education institutions. His book for teaching Arabic in Russian is currently being prepared for printing by us as well, on the basis of amendments suggested and wanted by our honorable professor, but he was not able to do them. With regard to his book The Arabic Language, which was printed recently and on the basis of his recommendations and opinions, its advantages can be briefly described as follows: - The book was prepared on the basis of the principle from easy to difficult. This principle allows many difficult topics to be divided into sections and repeated teaching, which helps to consolidate the acquired knowledge and absorb new topics more easily. Reinforcing the knowledge acquired through many exercises activates and intensifies the language teaching process. The process of reading texts acquires an important character in the teaching process, given that reading a new text in this book constitutes the final goal of a chapter or lesson, and serves for this purpose all previous operations, i.e. studying new vocabulary and solving many exercises. This arouses in every student intense interest and attention in the text that he found and will find in the future, as it is necessary to know the rules of Arabic before starting to read it in contrast to other languages. The student will not be able to read Arabic texts if he does not understand the rules of the language. The curriculum of Professor Ali Asghar Mammadov repeatedly stresses the principle of the importance of reading texts in particular. The same grammatical material in the book aims to enrich the student’s vocabulary for oral and written communication skills. The book aims to provide the student with information on aspects of Arab and Islamic civilization, culture and history. The book is not enough to teach vocabulary and the rules of grammar and morphology, but rather includes popular proverbs and pure Arabic phrases. The book provides students with the ability to express themselves both verbally and in writing, like Arabic-speaking people. - This book is not only a textbook, but also a circle of Arabic and Islamic knowledge. In each of its chapters, the author talks about Arab-Islamic history and culture and its role in global civilization and humanity. Through the exercises included in the book, the author tries to imbibe the students' hearts with a love of Arab and Islamic culture by presenting models and examples from Arab history, the Abbasid Caliphate, centers of science and culture such as Basra and Kufa, and the poems and writings of Fatahel, classic and contemporary Arabic literature such as Abu Nawas, Ibn al-Muqaffa, al-Jahiz, al-Mutanabi, Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi, Ibn Khaldun and Ahmad Shawqi and others.
