HEBRON (UNIA/WAFA) – The Ministry of Education and Higher Education called on human rights organizations, international organizations, and diplomatic missions to shoulder their responsibilities to protect the right of children in Masafer Yatta and other marginalized areas to education, following the Israeli occupation authorities’ decision to demolish the Palestine Mixed Elementary School in Masafer Yatta within 7 days.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the ministry called for urgent intervention to halt this unjust decision, ensure the protection of educational institutions in the threatened areas, and hold the occupation fully responsible for the repercussions of this aggression.
She stressed that this decision is part of a systematic policy aimed at undermining students' right to education, particularly in marginalized areas threatened by forced displacement.
The Ministry stressed that it views with extreme seriousness this decision, which affects 130 male and female students, threatens their academic future, and represents a flagrant violation of human rights and international conventions guaranteeing children's right to safe and stable education.
Human rights institutions and international organizations were called upon to play a practical role, including legal and diplomatic follow-ups and legal advocacy, to ensure that children's right to school is protected.
It's worth noting that this school, which enrolls 130 children, was founded in 2020 and includes classes from kindergarten through fourth grade. It is considered a challenge school, a powerful symbol of the resilience of residents in areas targeted by the occupation and its settlers.
