ISTANBUL (UNA/WAFA) – The Parliamentary Group Supporting Palestine announced its intention to establish a group aimed at exerting political influence through appropriate channels to defend, protect and guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
This came in the final statement of the work of the Parliamentary Group Supporting Palestine in Istanbul, in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the participation of the heads of parliaments of: Palestine, Bahrain, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Senegal, Turkey and the UAE, and the deputy heads of parliaments of: Algeria, Azerbaijan and Egypt.
The statement affirmed "full support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, and the independence, freedom, and sovereignty of the State of Palestine on the June 1967, XNUMX, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital."
He stressed the "strong commitment to achieving the two-state solution as the only way to establish lasting peace, stability, and security in the region," calling for "the serious, permanent, and irreversible implementation of the two-state solution."
He also called for “the right of return for Palestinian refugees in accordance with international law, the resolutions of the General Assembly and the United Nations Security Council, and the Arab Peace Initiative, in order to achieve a just and lasting peace that fulfills the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.”
The statement called on Israel to "respect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, repeal all laws and legislative initiatives inconsistent with international legal obligations, and cease any legislative actions that conflict with international law, international human rights law, and international humanitarian law."
He affirmed support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as an important factor for stability in the region, and we reject attempts to undermine or eliminate its role, calling on all countries to increase political, legal and financial support for UNRWA.
He called on Israel, “as an occupying power, to end its occupation and all its attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip; and to stop all policies and measures of illegal annexation and colonization, home demolitions, land seizures, and attempts to impose so-called Israeli sovereignty over any part of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.”
The statement rejected "any plan aimed at changing the demographic composition, character, or legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories."
He expressed his "condemnation of the displacement of the Palestinian people, whether individually or collectively, under any pretext or justification," considering that "attempts to remove Palestinians from their lands, or any form of displacement or exile, constitute a serious violation of international law."
The statement "strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against civilians and the siege imposed on the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza."
The statement urged "Israel to end its aggression, withdraw its forces, and ensure unhindered access for humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip."
He stressed "the urgent need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations to implement all stages of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza."
The statement called on "the United Nations, especially the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities in maintaining peace and security in the region, through the full, effective, and immediate implementation of all relevant United Nations resolutions, and taking additional necessary measures, including imposing sanctions on illegal Israeli activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, such as annexation, colonial activities, home demolitions, land seizure, and violence against civilians."
He welcomed the plan for early recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, presented by the Arab Republic of Egypt and adopted by the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, calling on the international community to support and adopt the plan without delay and contribute to its implementation to confront all displacement and annexation plans.
He proposed "establishing an international fund in cooperation with the United Nations to support orphans in the Gaza Strip, and to provide medical aid and prosthetic limbs to those injured who have lost their limbs, especially widows and orphans."
The statement also called on "the international community to provide urgent international protection to the Palestinian people and establish an international mechanism to protect human rights in the Palestinian territories."
He called for "preserving the historical and legal status quo in the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem."
He called for “support for the right of the State of Palestine to obtain full membership in the United Nations and its agencies,” appreciating the positions of the countries that recognized the State of Palestine, and calling on “all countries that have not yet recognized it to do so.”
The statement welcomed "the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in May 2024, submitted by the United Arab Emirates on behalf of the Arab Group, recommending full membership for the State of Palestine."
He called on parliaments around the world to encourage their governments to take concrete steps to achieve justice for the Palestinian people, and called on international and regional parliaments and parliamentary assemblies that support the two-state solution to join our group, which will meet as appropriate in a host country or on the sidelines of international conferences.
The Turkish Parliament hosted a meeting in Istanbul on Friday with representatives of parliaments from 13 countries in support of Palestine.
The meeting was held with the participation of the heads and members of parliaments of countries friendly to Palestine, with the aim of making the group a platform for cooperation and consultation in the field of parliamentary diplomacy.
The parliamentary initiative aims to establish an international parliamentary solidarity line in support of Palestine, enhance support for the two-state solution, increase the number of countries recognizing the State of Palestine, defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and prevent humanitarian disasters in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly Gaza.
