Kuala Lumpur (UNA) - Malaysia affirmed that America should reconsider its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in its statement today, Thursday, that this decision will end all efforts towards resolving issues related to the Palestinian people. The statement, according to the Malaysian national news agency Bernama, said: This decision will not only negatively affect security and stability in the region, but it will inflame passions and thus hinder efforts to combat terrorism and extremism. The statement continued: Malaysia reaffirms that Jerusalem is the root of the struggle of the Palestinian people. It requests all member states of the United Nations not to recognize any change in borders prior to 1967, with regard to Jerusalem. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that any attempts to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, or to establish or transfer diplomatic missions to it is a violation not only against Arabs and Muslims, but also a violation against the rights of Muslims and Christians. She pointed out that this decision violates the citizenship rights of the Palestinians, including their rights to determine their future, stressing that recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is not based on reality, but rather is support for Israeli policy and a violation of international law.
