Jeddah (UNA) – The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, expressed the organization’s appreciation for the Saudi initiative to call for a meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee to discuss the racist Israeli law known as the “Nation-State Law of the Jewish People” and its impact on the political and historical rights of the Palestinian people. In his opening speech at the meeting on Wednesday, Al-Othaimeen said that the Kingdom’s invitation confirms that the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif are at the forefront of its concerns and political initiatives under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and an extension of the Kingdom’s tireless efforts to contribute to achieving the goals of the organization and embodying the commitment of its member states to the shared responsibilities towards defending the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting their just cause. Al-Othaimeen stressed that the so-called “Nation-State Law of the Jewish People” represents an extension and consecration of the Israeli settlement ideology and an attempt to legitimize the occupation policies based on Judaization and ethnic cleansing, and the denial of the existence of the Palestinian people, their identity and their legitimate rights. The Secretary-General called on the international community and the Human Rights Council to redouble their efforts to take concrete positions and measures, including directly investigating such racist Israeli laws. At the same time, he called for activating the role of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and holding Israel, the occupying power, accountable for its violations. Al-Othaimeen stressed the organization’s continued efforts by participating in sponsoring international activities aimed at raising awareness of these racist Israeli laws and exposing them to world public opinion, and pushing for the prosecution of the Israeli occupation and holding it accountable for its crimes, policies and racist laws.
