Morocco: Washington's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel may threaten the security of the region

Rabat (UNA) – The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: The decision of the United States of America to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to transfer its embassy to it, may threaten the security and stability of a region already in an advanced state of tension and tension. In a statement, the ministry warned, according to Anadolu Agency, against inflaming feelings of anger, frustration, and hostility, and feeding manifestations of violence and extremism, if this decision was taken. The Kingdom of Morocco stressed the need to preserve the historical, legal and political status of Jerusalem. Morocco called on the United Nations, especially the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to assume their full responsibilities, to avoid anything that would prejudice this situation or impede international efforts to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The statement pointed out that such a step explicitly contradicts the resolutions of international legitimacy, the agreements concluded and the existing understandings between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
