Dhaka (INA) – The Arab and Islamic groups in the Inter-Parliamentary Union decided to support an Arab parliamentary proposal to include condemnation of the settlement legalization law on the agenda of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held tomorrow, Sunday, in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. This came during the meetings of the Arab and Islamic groups, today, Saturday, on the sidelines of the 136th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held in Bangladesh. During the two meetings, they discussed the Arab proposal, which was adopted unanimously during the 24th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Rabat, on the settlement legalization law approved by the Israeli Knesset on February 2017, 2334, as an escalation in Israel's colonial policy that violates international law and the Charter of Nations. and UN Security Council Resolution No. XNUMX, as well as violating the principles and objectives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and destroying the chances of achieving peace based on the two-state solution. Al-Ahmad said that the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its General Secretariat issued a statement containing clear condemnations of what the Knesset had done, and the President of the Union sent a letter to the Speaker of the Knesset asking him to withdraw the settlement law, which legitimizes settlements in the lands of the occupied State of Palestine and gives the occupation authority the right to confiscate the lands of Palestinian citizens and build more settlements. Settlements there, demolishing homes and transferring residents, all of which are measures that violate the Charter of the United Nations and the Geneva Convention. At the end of the meetings, the two groups decided to form follow-up committees with the geopolitical groups within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to mobilize support in favor of the Arab proposal, which calls on member parliaments, in their capacity as the elected representatives of the peoples of the world, to take measures to put an end to the impunity of Israel and its parliament, and to defend international law and human values.
