The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Guinea hold a workshop on the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities

Jeddah (UNA) – The Ministry of Social Affairs and Children of the Republic of Guinea, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, concluded a workshop on the integration and empowerment of persons with disabilities, today, Thursday, in Conakry, the capital of the Republic of Guinea. The two-day workshop discussed ways to enhance the capabilities of persons with disabilities, the role of information technology in ensuring their independence, and the status of persons with disabilities in light of the Corona virus pandemic. A presentation was also given on the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The opening session was attended by members of the Government of Guinea, representatives of national institutions and civil society organizations working in the field of protecting persons with disabilities in Guinea, the representative of the United Nations Development Program in Conakry, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Guinea. The Minister of Social Affairs and Childhood and the Minister of National Education and Literacy in Guinea delivered welcoming speeches during the opening session, in which they expressed Guinea’s thanks to the General Secretariat, headed by Secretary-General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, for its continuous support to Guinea to implement the government’s action plan in the field of protecting and empowering persons with disabilities. The Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, also delivered a recorded speech on behalf of the Secretary-General, in which he praised Guinea’s efforts in the field of integrating and empowering persons with disabilities, noting that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation attaches great importance to social protection, especially the protection of vulnerable groups, in line with the final statement of the 31th session of the Islamic Summit Conference held on 2019 May XNUMX in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, which stressed that the social dimension is essential to achieving sustainable development, and that investing in social protection is a means to achieve the Organization’s goals in these areas.
