The head of the Palestinian National Council warns of worsening famine in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli closure of crossings.

Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – The head of the Palestinian National Council, Rouhi Fattouh, warned of the worsening famine in the Gaza Strip, due to the closure of crossings and the prevention of the entry of food supplies, vegetables and fuel, stressing that starvation and siege are a policy of revenge, which constitutes a violation of international law and that starving civilians is a war crime.

Fattouh said in a statement issued by the National Council on Thursday that the occupation government, which continues to kill and bomb despite the ceasefire agreement, is deliberately depriving Palestinians of the necessities of life in a context that exacerbates forced displacement and raises serious fears of ethnic cleansing. The Palestinian people are paying the price for racist policies and Israeli electoral calculations.

He called on the US administration, as the guarantor of the ceasefire declared in Sharm el-Sheikh, to assume its responsibilities and exert immediate pressure to end the siege and starvation and open the crossings, calling on the Security Council and the international community to impose binding and deterrent measures to stop the violations and ensure legal accountability.

Fattouh stressed that international silence is no longer acceptable and that guarantees that do not stop the killing and starvation lose their meaning, emphasizing that what is required are effective measures that save lives and put an end to the killing and destruction of an entire people who have been suffering from genocide and ethnic cleansing for more than three years.
