Ankara (UNA/Anadolu) – Turkey on Tuesday strongly condemned the Houthi attacks in Yemen targeting Saudi Arabia, affirming its support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “We condemn in the strongest terms the Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, which disregard the safety of civilian lives and property, and escalate tensions in the region.”
She added: “We reiterate our support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The ministry stressed that the attacks also harm diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen by reaching a lasting political solution.
She called on the Houthis to cease their hostilities as soon as possible.
Earlier, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced that 73 civilians, including women and children, were injured as a result of Houthi attacks targeting civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran.
She said the attacks caused fires and a temporary shutdown of energy sector facilities.
She noted that the Houthis continue to target commercial vessels in the Red Sea and threaten the freedom of international maritime navigation.
The Kingdom reiterated its “categorical rejection of the hostile approach and criminal behavior that the Houthi militia has consistently pursued in threatening the security and stability of Yemen and the region, and its continued rejection of peace efforts.”
It affirmed its right to take the necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, protect its national assets, and maintain the security and safety of its citizens and residents on its territory, in accordance with the rules of international law.
She warned against “the Houthi group’s continued targeting of civilians and civilian facilities,” and called for an immediate halt to “all forms of escalation practiced by that militia.”
In a separate statement, the Saudi Ministry of Energy reported that a number of energy sector facilities and installations in the southern region of the Kingdom were targeted on Tuesday morning.
A ministry official was quoted as saying that the attacks caused fires at a number of sites, leading to a temporary halt in some operational activities.
He added that the attacks resulted in injuries of varying severity to a number of citizens and residents, and that the necessary medical care is being provided to the injured, while assessment and follow-up work is still ongoing.
