Kuala Lumpur (UNA/Bernama) – Malaysia will use various international platforms, including the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the BRICS group and the Non-Aligned Movement, in order to reach a comprehensive solution to the conflict in the Middle East.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hassan said that Malaysia was among the first countries to express its support for the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran last Wednesday, and that it would continue to monitor developments in subsequent negotiations to ensure stability in the region.
He added that Malaysia will also continue to provide moral support and play an active role in international efforts to ease tensions that led to the global supply crisis following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
“Thank God, the United States and Iran have finally agreed to sign the memorandum of understanding, which gives the two countries 60 days to negotiate the ratification of the agreed terms,” he said.
This came during the parliament session today, Tuesday, and he added: “The memorandum of understanding includes 14 clauses, among them efforts to rebuild the destroyed Iranian infrastructure (worth $300 billion), the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation, including from Lebanon.”
He added that Malaysia has also taken an indirect approach, including providing support to countries involved in the conflict, as well as holding talks with the President-elect of the United Nations General Assembly on efforts to strengthen international support for resolving the conflict in the region.
He added: “I personally contacted my Pakistani counterpart, who is hosting the negotiations between the United States and Iran, as well as my counterparts from the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to offer moral support, and we will continue to support taking several steps to end the conflict in the Middle East immediately.”
He added that nevertheless, the Zionist entity seems unwilling to succeed in peace efforts and continues to take actions that threaten peace and stability in the region.
Therefore, Mohammed seeks to continue international pressure on the Israeli occupation to stop military operations in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Lebanon and other areas.
