Kazakhstan approves new constitution after national referendum

Astana (UNA) – The total number of eligible voters was 12,482,613, and 9,127,192 voters participated, representing a turnout of 73.12%. Of those who voted, 7,954,667 supported the project, while 898,099 opposed it, and 146,558 ballots were deemed invalid.

Pursuant to Articles 31 and 33 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Republican Referendums”, and based on the minutes submitted by the regional referendum commissions in regions, cities of national importance and the capital, the Central Referendum Commission announced the official results of the vote.

The commission confirmed that the referendum is valid, given that more than half of eligible voters participated. Therefore, the referendum on the question, "Do you accept the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the draft of which was published in the media on February 12, 2026?" is considered valid.

The new constitution is officially adopted, having received the support of a majority of voters, and has been recognized based on the results recorded in more than two-thirds of the regions and cities of national importance and the capital, according to the minutes submitted by the regional referendum committees.
