Damascus (UNA/SANA) – The Syrian Arab Republic expressed its strong condemnation and categorical rejection of the declaration of mutual recognition between the Israeli occupation authorities and the Somaliland region, considering this step a clear violation of the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and a direct infringement on the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed in a statement today that such unilateral measures have no legal legitimacy and cannot have any international effect, as they are based on imposing a fait accompli that contradicts the established rules of international relations.
The ministry added in its statement: The Syrian Arab Republic stresses that any attempts to create parallel entities or support separatist projects represent a dangerous precedent that threatens regional security and stability, due to the serious political and security repercussions it carries for the countries of the region and their peoples.
The Ministry reiterated Syria’s firm position in support of the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and its absolute rejection of any efforts aimed at dismantling states or compromising their territorial integrity.
It is noted that the Israeli occupation authorities announced on December 26 a mutual recognition with the Somaliland region, making Israel the only country to have taken this step since the unilateral declaration of independence in 1991. The announcement was met with widespread rejection from the international community and Arab and Islamic countries, which stressed their support for the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and considered the move a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
