
Jeddah (UNA) – The Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-Yami, met with Ambassador Hadi Shibli, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as part of the Commission’s ongoing monitoring of the human rights situation in the State of Palestine.
During the meeting, the latest developments in the human rights situation in Palestine were reviewed, and the escalating humanitarian and human rights challenges facing the Palestinian people in light of the grave and ongoing violations were discussed, particularly with regard to the protection of civilians, respect for the rules of international humanitarian law, and guaranteeing the basic rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting also addressed ways to enhance institutional cooperation and coordination between the Commission and the State of Palestine, in order to support the Commission’s role in monitoring, evaluation and preparation of human rights reports, and to strengthen the presence of the Palestinian cause in regional and international human rights forums, in accordance with its advisory and oversight mandate.
Both sides stressed the importance of supporting international efforts aimed at ensuring accountability for violations, preventing impunity, and strengthening the protection of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in a way that preserves their human dignity and guarantees their right to live in security and peace.
The meeting stressed the need to intensify joint efforts to support and empower the Palestinian people, especially the youth, and to strengthen the role of national human rights institutions in documenting violations and spreading a culture of human rights, in accordance with the principles and values of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its objectives in protecting human beings and their dignity.
