Jeddah (UNA) – The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, affirmed that the organization will keep women’s empowerment issues among its priorities, and will initiate and adopt many efforts and initiatives that will improve the conditions of women in Muslim societies.
This came during his speech on Wednesday at the closing session of the International Conference on Islam, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the city of Jeddah.
The Secretary-General explained that the “Jeddah Document on Women in Islam” represents an intellectual and practical path adopted by legislative institutions and human rights organizations in member states and all Muslim societies when considering the rights of Muslim women, hoping that those who doubt Islam’s fairness to women will look at their rights through this document. Not through some isolated social practices in some Muslim societies that do not reflect the vision, tolerance and universality of Islam and its legislation.
He pointed to the efforts made by the organization in supporting Palestinian women, announcing that the emergency Islamic summit that will be held next Saturday in the city of Riyadh at the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will discuss the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and its repeated violations of international norms and all humanitarian principles and its brutal targeting of innocent children and women.
The conference concluded its work on Wednesday evening after three days of deliberations that witnessed five working sessions during which ministers, officials, scholars and thinkers discussed various issues related to women in the Islamic world.
