Jeddah (UNA) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in cooperation with the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), organized today a virtual seminar entitled: “From Family Planning to Family Promotion: How to Achieve Policies that Encourage Reproduction in OIC Member States.”
The symposium brought together policymakers, experts and representatives of relevant institutions from the organization’s member states to exchange regional experiences and discuss policies and strategies aimed at promoting family-centered development.
Dr. Abdul-Falilat Ajok, Director of the Department of Social Affairs and Family at the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), delivered the opening address on behalf of the OIC General Secretariat, in which she affirmed that this seminar is fully in line with the OIC’s strategy to empower the institution of marriage and the family, which was adopted by the Second Islamic Ministerial Conference for Social Development, and reflects the organization’s continued commitment to supporting member states in addressing demographic challenges through comprehensive family-centered policies.
During the seminar, participants reviewed demographic trends in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, national experiences in preparing policies that encourage reproduction, integrated strategies to strengthen the family, and best practices that contribute to consolidating the family institution, in support of achieving sustainable social development.
The symposium concluded by emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation between OIC member states and partner institutions, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and successful experiences, and supporting the development of evidence-based policies to promote family well-being, demographic sustainability, and social cohesion in all OIC member states.
