The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) is an OIC body established in 2011 to promote and protect human rights in member states. It provides advice and recommendations on human rights issues, with an emphasis on Islamic values, and promotes international cooperation in this field.

Dr. Hadi bin Ali Mohammed Al-Yami is a Saudi academic and expert in law and human rights, and a member of the Shura Council in its seventh and eighth sessions. He has held prominent positions, including chairing the Arab Human Rights Committee at the League of Arab States (2014–2017) and serving on the Saudi Human Rights Commission and the Saudi Red Crescent Authority.
He represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at numerous international meetings at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva and elsewhere, and he has made intellectual and research contributions in the fields of law and human rights, in addition to his articles in Al-Watan and Al-Ahram newspapers.

Conducting studies and research in the field of human rights.
To promote human rights and fundamental freedoms in Member States as well as the fundamental rights of minorities and Muslim communities in non-Member States in accordance with universally recognized human rights norms and standards and the added value of Islamic principles of justice and equality.
To promote and enhance human rights in Member States by providing “technical cooperation, assistance in the field of human rights and awareness-raising”.
Promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue as a tool for promoting peace and harmony among different civilizations and enhancing the true image of Islam.
Providing independent support to Member States and their national institutions in promoting and protecting human rights for all.
Review the Organization’s human rights instruments and recommend any amendments thereto where necessary, including recommending new mechanisms and instruments.
Strengthening cooperative working relationships with relevant UN and OPCW bodies, as well as relevant regional human rights mechanisms.
Encouraging and supporting the role of accredited civil society organizations in member states.
Participation in election observation missions in Member States.
