The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemns the occupation's deliberate assassination of journalist Mohammed Washah

Jeddah (UNA) – The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) condemned the assassination of Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent, Palestinian journalist Mohammed Samir Washah, following a deliberate targeting by the Israeli occupation of a civilian vehicle in the heart of Gaza City on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The Union expressed its concern regarding the occupation’s continued targeting and assassination of Palestinian journalists while they were performing their duties, using repeated brutal methods, noting that it recently assassinated, specifically on January 21, 2026, three journalists as a result of a raid that targeted their vehicle in Al-Zahra city in the central Gaza Strip, namely: Abdul Raouf Shaath, Anas Ghneim, and Muhammad Salah Qashta.

The union stressed that the assassination of Palestinian journalists is a crime that reflects the occupation’s insistence on targeting anyone who carries a camera or a pen, in the context of a dangerous and systematic escalation against the media, noting that the rise in the number of Palestinian journalists killed to 262 is a clear declaration of open war on the media, and a blatant violation of international conventions, which requires urgent action from the international community.

“Yona” offers its condolences to the family of the martyr and his colleagues, and to the families of all martyred journalists.
