
Jeddah (UNA) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), in cooperation with the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), organized a virtual Ramadan evening on Thursday, March 5, 2026, corresponding to Ramadan 16, 1447, via the Zoom platform, entitled: “Humanitarian work as a tool to promote human rights and the values of coexistence and tolerance.”
The evening, chaired by the Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-Yami, was attended by active and diverse participants, including the Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdul Rabbo Al-Yami, His Excellency Ambassador Diaa El-Din Saeed Bamakhrama, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti and Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Executive Director of the Islamic Solidarity Fund, Mr. Mohammed bin Suleiman Aba Al-Khail, the official spokesperson for the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, Dr. Samer Al-Jutaili, the Secretary General of the King Abdulaziz Center for Civilizational Communication, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Fawzan, and a member of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Arwa Hassan Al-Sayed, each of whom presented a working paper on humanitarian work and how it can be a tool to promote human rights and the values of coexistence and tolerance.
The evening, which was widely attended by officials from a number of organizations around the world, human rights experts and media professionals, discussed the statement of the close link between humanitarian work and human rights, and that effective humanitarian action is a condition for preserving human dignity, especially in areas of crises and disasters, and emphasized the role of humanitarian work in promoting the values of coexistence and tolerance and maintaining social stability.
The participants stressed the need to activate best practices to enhance the proactive role of humanitarian work in creating an environment and conditions that support the protection of human rights, alleviate people’s suffering, protect life, health and education, and ensure respect for human beings in accordance with the principle of neutrality and impartiality without bias towards any party. They pointed out that the impact of humanitarian work is not limited to responding to urgent needs, but extends to form a fundamental pillar in establishing a culture of tolerance and coexistence within societies, in light of the agreement that humanitarian activity establishes a language based on mercy, compassion and understanding, and promotes human commonalities above ethnic, religious and cultural differences.
