The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) signs a memorandum of understanding with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC).

Jeddah (UNA) – The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Union by the Director General, Professor Mohammed bin Abdulrab Al-Yami, while on behalf of the Institute it was signed by the Secretary General, Mr. Ihsan Ofet.

The memorandum, which came on the sidelines of Mr. Oft’s visit to the Union’s headquarters in Jeddah, aims to enhance cooperation between the two bodies affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in a number of areas, including organizing educational workshops on the halal industry, promoting the sustainability of the halal economy, discussing the latest innovations and best practices in the halal sector, and holding specialized seminars for the staff of both parties according to their specialization.

It also aims to enhance knowledge and research exchange between the two sides and coordinate media dissemination. During the visit, several topics were discussed that contribute to strengthening joint cooperation and consolidating relations between the two sides, thereby supporting the objectives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in promoting the halal industry, which adheres to Islamic standards, through the Institute.
