Jeddah (UNA) – The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) held its fourth session of the Union’s Finance and Administrative Committee on Thursday, January 15, 2026, via video conference.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Financial and Administrative Committee of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA-OIC), Mr. Saif bin Ali Al-Ya’arubi, Editor-in-Chief of the Oman News Agency, in the presence of the Director-General of UNA-OIC, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdul Rabbo Al-Yami, and with the participation of representatives of news agencies in member states, Mr. Ibrahim Hadiya Al-Majbri, Director-General of the Libyan News Agency (LANA), Mr. Dembele Foussini, Director-General of the Ivorian News Agency (AIP), Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Youssef, Editor-in-Chief of the Middle East News Agency (MENA), and Mr. Abdullah Al-Hussaini, Director of Finance at the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Al-Ya’arubi thanked the members of the committee for accepting the invitation to attend the meeting and for their keenness to carry out the tasks assigned to them within the framework of the arrangements regulating the work of the Union, conveying to the attendees the greetings of Professor Ibrahim bin Salem Al-Salmi, Director General and Editor-in-Chief of the Oman News Agency, and his good wishes for the meeting to be successful and achieve more.
He also expressed his gratitude to Professor Abdullah Al-Hussaini for chairing the committee in its previous session, praising the efforts and work made by the member professors.
For his part, the Director General of the Union, Professor Mohammed bin Abdulrab Al-Yami, expressed his thanks to the Chairman and members of the Committee for their keenness to carry out the tasks assigned to them within the framework of the arrangements regulating the work of the Union.
He pointed to the transformation phase that the Union is going through, and the need to push this transformation forward and establish it on solid financial and administrative foundations, which requires the cooperation and concerted efforts of all member states.
He stressed that the meeting is taking place at a time when there is a growing need for joint institutions and bodies such as the Union, in light of increasing challenges and the need for effective institutions dedicated to serving and defending common causes in the international media space.
Al-Yami reviewed some of the Union’s achievements, programs and activities that it implemented during the last period, calling on member states to take the initiative to pay their contributions to the Union’s budget, to enable it to carry out the tasks assigned to it in promoting media work in the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
During the meeting, the financial report of the Director General of the Union was reviewed, the budget and final accounts for the year 2025 were reviewed, in addition to the adoption of the draft estimated budget for the Union for the year 2026, in preparation for submitting it to the next session of the Executive Council and the General Assembly of the Union.
