During the meeting, the Executive Director of the Commission, Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-Yami, spoke about the Commission, before announcing the launch of the “Jeddah Declaration 2025 for Youth Empowerment, Development, and Peace.”
The Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Professor Muhammad bin Abdul Rabbo Al-Yami, inaugurated the introductory meeting with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees, before shedding light on the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, and its keenness since His Excellency Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-Yami assumed responsibility for its management, to activate its media roles, indicating that the Commission demonstrated its concern for the media during the work of the twenty-sixth regular session held under the title “Youth Development in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Opportunities from a Human Rights Perspective”, by allocating two sessions to discuss the role of the media in protecting human rights in general, and youth rights in particular.
Professor Al-Yami explained that this meeting comes to build on what was achieved in the twenty-sixth session, and to contribute to introducing one of its most prominent outcomes, namely the “Jeddah Declaration 2025 for Youth Empowerment, Development and Peace,” which represents a comprehensive and inclusive framework for formulating policies related to youth in the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
For his part, Dr. Hadi Al-Yami thanked UNA for organizing this meeting and for its continued support of the Commission, as an affirmation of the importance of the partnership between the two parties, before he began to introduce the Commission, as the independent human rights mechanism of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the institutional arm concerned with promoting and protecting human rights in its member states, and its role, most prominent tasks and objectives.
During the meeting, Dr. Hadi Al-Yami also revealed the Authority’s aspirations for the next stage and its future vision, through which the Authority seeks to enhance institutional impact and move from an advisory role to establishing sustainable effectiveness.
Dr. Hadi Al-Yami announced the launch of the “Jeddah Declaration 2025 for Youth Empowerment, Development and Peace,” stressing that empowering youth is no longer an option, but a human rights, development and security necessity, and that from this standpoint, the Authority moves from diagnosis to commitment, and from dialogue to declaration.
He explained that the Jeddah Declaration 2025 is a preliminary and guiding document that expresses a collective vision of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and affirms that young people are partners in peace, makers of development, and bearers of their rights and responsibilities. He pointed out that the declaration aims to link human rights with the agenda of youth, development, and peace, and that it is consistent with the priorities of member states and their national visions, and opens the door to practical initiatives and future partnerships.
