The Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomes the lifting of sanctions on Syria.

Jeddah (UNA) - The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed today the announcement by US President Donald Trump to lift economic sanctions on Syria, based on a request from His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The union stated that this step represents "a positive development that reflects the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries to enhance stability in the region and support the Syrian people, noting that lifting the sanctions will contribute to alleviating human suffering and open new horizons for reconstruction and economic cooperation."

This decision came after a series of intensive discussions between Saudi Arabia and the United States, during which the Saudi Crown Prince emphasized the importance of supporting political solutions and reintegrating Syria into the Arab and Islamic world.

For their part, several member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed hope that this decision would translate into improved living conditions for Syrians and called for international cooperation to rebuild the country.
