UNA stresses the importance of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia in addressing the dangers of this phenomenon.

Jeddah (UNA) – The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) commended the United Nations General Assembly’s commemoration of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the first such event since March 15 was declared the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

The Director General of the Union, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Abdul Rabbah Al-Yami, emphasized the importance of this occasion in highlighting the dangers of Islamophobia and confronting its manifestations in political and media discourse.

Al-Yami stressed the need for international media to play a more effective role in combating this phenomenon, ensuring that Islam is portrayed fairly and professionally, reflecting its tolerant values, and avoiding associating it with terrorism or violence.

Al-Yami commended the role of OIC member states in combating this phenomenon globally, and the push to designate an international day to combat it.

He affirmed the Union's continued commitment, as one of the Organization's main media arms, to working with its member agencies and international partners to combat this phenomenon and highlight the tolerant values ​​of Islam, thus contributing to promoting tolerance and coexistence among followers of different religions and cultures.
