Jeddah (UNA) – The Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA), Mr. Mohammed bin Abdrabuh Al-Yami, participated in the work of the meeting of the Strategic Vision Group “Russia-Islamic World”, which was held today, Wednesday, in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, in the presence of the Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar bin Ibrahim, and the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Chairman of the Strategic Vision Group, Rustam Minnikhanov.
The meeting, which will continue until December 12, discussed various issues related to the topic of “Interaction between the Islamic World and the Russian Federation in the Era of Emerging Multipolarity,” with broad participation from officials, religious, intellectual, and diplomatic leaders from around the world.
During the meeting, the Director General of the Union, Mohammed bin Abdul Rabbo Al-Yami, delivered a speech in which he explained that the meeting of the Strategic Vision Group is one of the high-level international platforms for promoting dialogue between cultures and pushing towards a world of mutual respect and cooperation in order to protect the highest human values and serve common interests.
Al-Yami stressed that holding this event periodically and hosting it in an Islamic country indicates the great importance that the Russian Federation attaches to strengthening its relations with the Islamic world within the framework of these common values and interests.
In his speech, Al-Yami reviewed some of the Union’s contributions to promoting pluralism in international media discourse, based on the tasks assigned to it as one of the main media bodies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
In this regard, Al-Yami referred to the Union’s efforts to present the viewpoint of the Islamic world and the Global South on important issues, whether these issues are political, such as the Palestinian issue, which the Union is always keen to follow up on in order to defend the rights of the Palestinian people and expose the violations of the Israeli occupation, or issues related to sustainable development, such as combating poverty, climate change, and food security.
Al-Yami also pointed out the Union's keenness to enhance the exchange of news and information between the media within the framework of the Islamic cooperation system, in order to confront the monopoly of information and the one-way flow of media content, which often leads to distortion of facts, bias, and the creation of a state of media misinformation.
In this context, Al-Yami also pointed to the role of the Union in supporting the process of sharing expertise and experiences within the framework of the Islamic world and the Global South in general, indicating that the Union has concluded many agreements with major media outlets in the Islamic world, Africa, China and Russia, with the aim of exchanging knowledge, enhancing the capabilities of journalists to keep pace with the major transformations witnessed by the media space, and undertaking their roles in promoting media pluralism.
Al-Yami expressed his thanks to the Strategic Vision Group “Russia – Islamic World”, led by President Rustam Minnikhanov, for its great cooperation with the Union and its support for its activities, appreciating, in the same context, Malaysia’s efforts in the skillful organization of this high-level event, which comes within the framework of its great contributions to serving common global issues.
