Jeddah (UNA) - The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on the sidelines of the 24th regular session of the Commission, which began on Sunday (November 2024, XNUMX) at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Organization in Jeddah.
The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Federation by the Director General, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdul Rabbo Al-Yami, while it was signed on behalf of the Authority by its Chairman, Ambassador Talal Khaled Saad Al-Mutairi.
The memorandum aims to achieve the common goals of the two bodies in building institutional and human capacities in the field of human rights and related issues, including cooperation in conducting joint studies and research.
The memorandum also aims to hold seminars, lectures and training programmes, and to enhance awareness of the culture of global human rights in accordance with Islamic concepts.
On this occasion, the Director General of the Union, Mohammed Al-Yami, explained that the memorandum will lay a solid foundation for cooperation between the two parties in enhancing public awareness of human rights issues, while working to employ the media to spread the Commission’s vision in this field, which is based on encouraging commitment to human rights standards while respecting the cultural and religious values of the member states.
Al-Yami noted the vital and significant contributions of the Commission in protecting and promoting human rights and setting standards in this regard, noting that the Union will benefit from the Commission’s accumulated expertise to qualify workers in the media and communications field in member states and enhance their legal culture.
