At the “UNA” Forum and the Muslim World League... launching 11 initiatives to mobilize international media support for the recognition of Palestine

grandmother (UNA) - The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, launched the work of the International Forum: “Media and Palestinian Right: Practical steps in building on initiatives to recognize Palestine,” which was organized “via Visual Communication” in partnership between the Assistant Secretariat for Institutional Communication and the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Countries.  

The forum was opened with the participation of news agencies in Islamic countries, international media federations, heads of international news agencies, and an elite group of diplomatic and intellectual figures.

At the conclusion of its work, the Forum issued a number of recommendations, including eleven executive initiatives that enhance Islamic and international media support to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of a specialized interactive media platform; By monitoring and documenting the international and popular movement, with regard to commitment to international resolutions related to the Palestinian issue, publishing documented periodic reports on that, intensifying media dissemination on the initiatives and announcements issued by various countries around the world regarding the recognition of Palestine, presenting these announcements in a positive light, and launching an electronic blog for terminology. The media circulating about everything related to the Palestinian issue and the Palestinian people defines the misleading terms that are commonly used in media narratives about the Palestinian issue, and the corresponding accurate terminology based on international references, in addition to announcing the “Medialists for Peace” initiative, which includes specialists and activists from various parts of the world; To build a comprehensive media strategy that includes events, campaigns, and activities that promote the path of peace and a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.

Initiatives included holding a regular media forum in one of the world capitals; To discuss practical steps to support the Palestinian cause in the media, coordinate joint action in this regard, and launch a special section in the “Union of Islamic News Agencies Award,” which was announced last November, to honor the best journalistic works that support the Palestinian cause and contribute to spreading correct awareness about it. Support and advance international efforts aimed at resolving it.

The recommendations included strengthening cooperation and coordination between the media arms of international organizations concerned with the Palestinian issue, such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Muslim World League, in media awareness of the Palestinian issue, organizing programs and activities designed for this purpose, and working to intensify media monitoring of statements that are offensive to the Palestinian people. Issued by some Israeli officials and far-right parties in Israel, demonstrating the violation of international human rights conventions that these statements represent.

The Secretary-General of the Association opened the forum with a speech in which he stressed that the professional and objective media coverage of the bloody events in Gaza has become one of the foundations that revived the international debate on the necessity of accelerating an urgent, just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.

He reiterated that the catastrophic disasters and blatant attacks that the Palestinian people are suffering from will remain engraved in the conscience of every living conscience, and is a testament to the level of competence of the international community in supporting the oppressed, deterring the oppressor, and establishing standards of international justice, noting the endeavor for this platform to be an effective platform for pressure towards measures Strong and resolute to stop the horrific crimes against the Palestinian people.

Dr. stressed. Al-Issa emphasized that the media - with its various means and modern technologies - has an important role in contributing effectively towards taking the ship of our world to the shore of its salvation.

He pointed out that since the beginning of the events in Gaza, the professional and honest media has played an important and prominent role in exposing the crimes of the Israeli aggression, and presenting an honest, professional picture of the unjust violations against the Palestinian people taking place on the bloody stage. 

Dr. Al-Issa stressed that these positive steps and successful media results coincided with intense Arab Islamic movements, led by the ministerial committee assigned by the Joint Arab Islamic Summit, which was chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The committee worked to mobilize international support in order to immediately end the war in Gaza. And discuss concrete and practical steps to implement the two-state solution and end the conflict in the region.

Dr. Al-Issa highly appreciated, in the name of the Muslim World League, and in the name of the nation’s scholars and intellectuals and the Muslim peoples under its umbrella, the great efforts made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his trustworthy Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in order to support the Palestinian cause, and to stand firmly in the face of the horrific crimes in Gaza, which emerged through the historic summits hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to unify world opinion regarding resolving the Palestinian issue permanently and justly, and to activate the Arab initiative regarding it, and to revive the path Peace in the region.

After that, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, delivered a speech in which he opened by stressing the importance of holding such a forum to devote cooperation in serving the cause of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

In his speech, he touched on the importance of the role of the media in documenting the Israeli aggression authorities’ violations of international and humanitarian laws, and their lack of scruples in systematically committing all forms of violence against the Palestinian people.

Taha pointed out the importance of internationalizing the Palestinian issue, and thoughtful work through the relevant international institutions and committees in order to obtain international recognition of the Palestinian state, according to a plan stemming from a precise vision that leads to a two-state solution based on the relevant United Nations resolutions.

He stressed the need for purposeful intervention in order to end the Israeli occupation, thus bringing down the curtain on the entire colonial era, avoiding silence about what is happening in occupied Palestine, and taking the initiative to take steps to consolidate peace.

In turn, the General Supervisor of Official Media in the State of Palestine, Minister Ahmed Assaf, confirmed that the recent wave of recognitions of the Palestinian state, meaning the confessions of Spain, Ireland, Norway and Slovenia, represents an awakening to the world’s rejection of the Israeli brutality that is being practiced uncontrollably in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

He pointed out that in the same context come the decisions of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court. The time in which Israel can escape accountability and punishment has ended, and it is no longer acceptable for the policy of double standards to continue.

Assaf said: What is happening in Palestine now is a new catastrophe. Otherwise, what can we call the comprehensive destruction of the Gaza Strip? During the genocidal war, nearly forty thousand martyrs and one hundred thousand wounded, including tens of thousands who became permanently disabled. 

The Palestinian Minister stressed that the media, with all its tools and means, has a decisive role in today’s world, and that - specifically with regard to the Palestinian issue - it can make a difference, as the essence of the conflict is over the narrative, and it is a difficult and complex conflict. Because it is intertwined with cultures and ambitions. 

In turn, the Director General of the Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) calledUNA), Professor Muhammad bin Abd Rabbuh Al-Yami, called for investing in international initiatives to recognize Palestine and accompanying them with a media discourse that strengthens them and highlights their importance in ending the conflict and establishing peace.

The forum included a number of discussion panels during which a number of media experts and leaders of its international federations discussed a number of topics and issues, including “practical steps in media cooperation to support initiatives to recognize the State of Palestine,” and “media terminology and supporting the legitimate right of the Palestinian people,” in addition to To “peace journalism and enhancing the role of the media in resolving international crises.”
