Djibouti (INA) – The Djiboutian Ministry of State for Youth and Sports launched on Monday a new campaign against HIV, which aims to educate young people about the dangers posed by this deadly epidemic and the means to prevent it. This campaign, supported by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), will continue for a week, during which media meetings will be held and awareness films about AIDS will be shown in all community development centers in Djibouti city and the capitals of the five regions. According to the Minister of Health in Djibouti, Dr. Kassem Ishaq Othman, AIDS constitutes a serious obstacle to the desired development process in the country, explaining that the age group between 20 and 34 years, which represents 70 percent of the total population, is the most vulnerable to the disease, whether in urban areas or rural. It is noteworthy that people living with HIV, who constitute about 3 percent, according to recent estimates, are exposed to forms of rejection and avoidance from society.
