
Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate documented 108 attacks committed by the Israeli occupation against journalists and workers in Palestinian media institutions during the month of July 2026.
According to a press release issued by the union’s Liberties Committee on Sunday evening, the attacks included arrest, beatings, interrogation, detention, and prevention from covering events, in addition to targeting with sound and gas bombs, attacks by terrorist settlers, storming homes and press institutions, seizing equipment, and destroying it.
According to the Liberties Committee's documentation, 58 cases of detention and prevention from press coverage were recorded, topping the list of documented violations during the month, at a time when restrictions on the work of journalists continued while they were covering field events..
The committee recorded 11 attacks by terrorist settlers against journalists and media crews, including physical assault, pushing, threats, and preventing journalists from carrying out their work, particularly while covering events and violations in various areas of the West Bank..
The committee also documented 12 cases of targeting with sound and gas bombs by the occupation forces, which in a number of cases led to journalists suffering from suffocation while they were covering raids, attacks and field events..
In the context of physical assaults, the Committee for Freedoms documented 6 cases of beatings, in addition to 4 cases of serious injury sustained by journalists while performing their journalistic duties and covering events in the Gaza Strip, including injuries caused by shrapnel from rockets and shells..
Regarding arrests, the committee documented two cases of journalists being arrested, and recorded four cases of investigation, within the framework of measures taken against journalists while performing their work or on account of their journalistic activity..
The committee also documented four cases of raids on homes and media outlets, some of which involved searching and tampering with contents and interrogating journalists, in addition to the closure of a media institution and the seizure of its contents..
Regarding press equipment, the committee recorded three cases of equipment seizure and destruction, along with two cases of deleting video footage while preventing journalists from covering events or assaulting them while performing their duties..
The Committee for Freedoms also documented two cases of expulsion from Al-Aqsa Mosque, where decisions were issued to prevent journalists from entering the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque for specific periods of time..
The committee confirmed that the field incidents it documented during the past month of July show that the occupation's attacks were not limited to one type of violation, but extended from arrest, interrogation and detention to physical assault and targeting with gas and stun grenades, in addition to preventing coverage, seizing equipment and deleting filmed material..
She pointed out that these data confirm the continued exposure of Palestinian journalists to multiple risks and restrictions while performing their professional duty of reporting and documenting events, in light of the repeated cases of prevention, detention, and attacks on press crews in various locations..
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate demanded that journalists be protected and enabled to perform their work without threat, assault, or persecution, that the freedom of journalistic work and the public’s right to access information be respected, and that those responsible for attacks and violations against journalists and media crews be held accountable.
