Jeddah (UNA) – The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its strong condemnation and categorical rejection of the Israeli occupation authorities’ measures to register the lands of the occupied West Bank and convert them into what they call “state property,” in a move aimed at imposing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Authority affirmed that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is occupied Palestinian territory under international law, and that any unilateral measures affecting its legal status, leading to a change in land ownership, or facilitating settlement expansion constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, and undermine the Palestinian people’s inherent right to self-determination.
The Commission also stressed that the confiscation or seizure of land, and the transfer of the occupying power’s population to the occupied territories, are prohibited under international law, and constitute an attack on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and an undermining of peace and stability efforts in the region.
The Commission called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, and to take urgent and effective measures to stop these violations, ensure respect for the rules of international law, and protect the rights of Palestinian civilians, in order to preserve the chances of achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
