The UN Secretary-General condemns the demolition by the occupation of buildings at UNRWA headquarters in occupied Jerusalem.

New York (UNA/WAFA) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned on Tuesday the demolition by Israeli occupation authorities of buildings at the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement, Guterres urged the Israeli occupation government to immediately halt the demolition, calling for the return of the headquarters and other UNRWA facilities to the United Nations without delay..

The Secretary-General stated that the Sheikh Jarrah compound remains under the auspices of the United Nations and is protected and immune from any form of interference, noting that he has affirmed this repeatedly and unequivocally, including in his letter to the head of the occupying government dated 8 January 2026..

The Secretary-General described the continued escalation of measures against UNRWA as “completely unacceptable and contrary to Israel’s clear obligations under international law, including the Charter of the United Nations and the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.”".
