Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) - The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported in its report issued today, Tuesday, that Ofer Prison is witnessing a serious deterioration in the health and living conditions of the prisoners, noting the variety of violations including medical neglect, ill-treatment, and repeated raids on the sections. These practices include adult prisoners in addition to one cub among the documented cases.
The Commission's lawyer stated that the minor prisoner, Nizar Khaled Assi (17 years old), from the town of Beit Liqya/Ramallah, was arrested on April 7, 2025, after being shot twice in the head during clashes in his town. Soldiers prevented Palestinian paramedics from providing him with medical treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital and then to Ofer Prison, where he has been detained for eight months without charge.
Assi suffers from near-total hearing loss and needs hearing aids; however, one of his hearing aids is broken, and the prison administration refuses to repair or replace it, providing him only with batteries for the other. He also contracted scabiei, which is prevalent in Ward 25, without the infected being quarantined or provided with appropriate treatment, after the administration stopped supplying them with medicated ointments.
Assi stressed that the cubs are subjected to the same treatment as the adult prisoners, including assaults, raids, poor quality food, and insufficient quantities.
In this context, prisoner Amr Muhammad Siyara suffers from kidney and urinary tract infections, in addition to sinusitis, causing him severe pain and constant headaches, without receiving treatment despite his repeated requests. He has lost a significant amount of weight since his arrest on June 10, 2025.
The report noted almost daily raids on the sections, explaining that a special force raided Section 12 two weeks ago, searched it completely, confiscated prisoners’ belongings, imposed collective punishments on them, and injured a number of them with rubber bullets.
Prisoner Muhammad Na'im Badr, 24, from the town of Beit Duqqu/Jerusalem, who has been detained since June 25, 2024, also complains of severe tooth pain that prevents him from sleeping, without receiving the necessary treatment. He has lost more than 40 kilograms of weight during his detention.
In the same context, the Commission’s lawyer visited two prisoners and described their conditions as stable. They are: Muhammad Ahmad Muhammad Zaid (25 years old) – Al-Jalazoun camp, detained since 07/29/2025, and Youssef Ahmad Mutair (18 years old), detained since 09/05/2025.
