Jerusalem (UNA/WAFA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that large numbers of Israeli forces stormed the agency’s headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, in the early morning hours.
UNRWA added in a statement issued on Monday that trucks and cranes were seen entering the compound, and no further information is available yet, as Israeli forces have cut off communications, and there are currently no UN staff inside the compound.
She stressed that the unauthorized and forceful entry of Israeli forces constitutes an unacceptable violation of the privileges and immunities of UNRWA as a United Nations agency, noting that Israel is a party to the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, which stipulates the inviolability of United Nations premises (immunity from search and seizure), and that its property and assets are immune from legal proceedings.
