Madrid (UNA/WAFA) – Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares called on the European Union to "show courage in imposing sanctions on Israel," which continues to commit genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday, Albares explained that he would demand that his counterparts immediately suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement and impose an arms embargo and individual sanctions on those responsible for Israel.
Suspending the partnership, which grants Israel trade privileges, requires a qualified majority of 15 member states representing at least 65% of the EU population.
Albares noted that he would ask his counterparts at the meeting to "show courage in imposing sanctions on Israel."
With full American support, Israel has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 187 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, more than 11 missing, and hundreds of thousands displaced.
