Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, called on various international, regional and Arab parliaments to take urgent action to protect the Palestinian people and provide urgent relief to the Gaza Strip, in light of the worsening humanitarian disaster resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression.
In a distress call addressed to the European Parliament, the Arab Parliamentary Union, the Arab Parliament, the Parliament of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Parliamentary Network of Non-Aligned Movement Member States, the Asian Parliamentary Union, the African Parliament, the Latin American Parliament, and the national parliaments of friendly countries, Fattouh stressed that the Gaza Strip is witnessing unprecedented humanitarian conditions, including mass deaths due to bombing, hunger, thirst, displacement, lack of treatment, and the complete collapse of the health system.
He pointed out that "all the cities and towns in the Gaza Strip, from Rafah to Beit Hanoun, from Gaza to Khan Yunis, have been transformed into disaster zones, overcrowded with displaced people, who are being pursued by death even in shelter tents and food distribution centers, which have become direct targets for killing."
He continued: “As the President of the Palestinian National Council, and as a citizen of the city of Rafah, which was wiped out, I appeal to you to stand with pride, dignity, and humanity. I demand that you pass emergency legislation allocating symbolic sums equivalent to the price of a meal, a liter of water, or a box of medicine, to save the lives of children, the elderly, and women who are dying of hunger, disease, cold, and heat.”
