Milan (UNA/WAFA) – A group of 17 children from the Gaza Strip, including Adam al-Najjar, who lost his nine siblings in the Israeli occupation’s massacre of his family last month, arrived in Italy to receive medical treatment, accompanied by more than 50 family members.
The carpenter, who suffered multiple fractures, arrived with his mother at Milan's Linate Airport, where he was received by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani before being transferred to the city's Niguarda Hospital.
The plane that landed in Linate carried five other injured children, while 11 others arrived on flights to other Italian airports.
The occupation's massacre, which occurred on May 23, resulted in the martyrdom of nine of Dr. Alaa al-Najjar's children and her husband, Hamdi al-Najjar, who was martyred about a week after the massacre. Adam was also critically injured and transferred to Nasser Hospital, one of the few operating medical facilities in the southern Gaza Strip.
"Adam's condition is now stable. He was shot in the head, and the wound is healing. But the bones in his left arm are broken and the nerves are damaged," Najjar, 36, told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
"The damage is to my left hand. There's a nerve issue, so I can't feel my fingers. I'm still in severe pain," Adam said.
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced earlier on Wednesday that 70 children would arrive in Italy on three planes. The patients will receive treatment in hospitals in several cities, including Milan, Rome, and Bologna.
According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) website, the occupation's aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, 15, has resulted in the martyrdom of more than 34 children and the injury of more than XNUMX others so far.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the latest transfer brings the number of wounded citizens transferred by the Italian government from Gaza for treatment in the country to 150.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had previously stated that "Israel's operations against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have reached unacceptable proportions," calling for an immediate halt and the protection of civilians.
