New York (UNA/WAFA) – The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned on Sunday that children in Palestine are facing "extremely worrying" conditions, living in "extreme fear and anxiety" and suffering the consequences of being deprived of humanitarian assistance and protection..
This came in a statement issued by UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Edouard Beigbeder, following a four-day field visit to the West Bank and Gaza Strip..
“The situation in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is extremely worrying, with almost all 2.4 million children affected in one way or another,” Beigbeder said in the statement.".
“Some children live in extreme fear and anxiety, while others face real consequences of being denied humanitarian assistance and protection, or of displacement, destruction, or even death, and they must be protected,” he added.".
He pointed out that about one million children in the Gaza Strip lack the basic necessities for survival, as a result of restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid..
He stressed that “children must not be killed, injured or displaced, and all parties must respect their obligations under international law.”".
He continued, "The basic and protection needs of civilians must be met, and humanitarian aid must be allowed to flow quickly and on a large scale."".
