Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) – Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Fareseen Shaheen called on New Zealand to recognize the State of Palestine, appreciating its positions in support of the rights of the Palestinian people.
This came during her meeting with New Zealand's non-resident representative to the State of Palestine, Amy Lawrenson, at the ministry's headquarters in Ramallah, today, Wednesday, in the presence of the Head of the Bilateral Relations Sector for Asian, African and Pacific Affairs, Senior Advisor Rana Abu Hakima.
She discussed with her the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories in light of the ongoing violations of international law by the occupation and the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Shaheen stressed the necessity of New Zealand recognizing the state of Palestine, as a fundamental step to save the principle of the two-state solution and achieve a just and comprehensive peace, appreciating New Zealand's supportive and continuous positions on the Palestinian cause and positive voting in international forums, its provision of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and its firm position in continuing to fund the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Shaheen stressed the importance of sustaining the ceasefire and providing protection for our people in the Gaza Strip as a result of the 15-month war of extermination they have been subjected to.
