Vienna (UNA/QNA) - The State of Qatar stressed that the war of extermination waged by the Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip for more than 11 months, which has expanded in recent weeks to include the occupied West Bank, is a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, and requires the international community and its relevant institutions to take urgent measures to stop it.
This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Governor of the State of Qatar to the International Atomic Energy Agency, before the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency held in Vienna, regarding the situation in occupied Palestine.
Dr. Al Hammadi referred to the statement of the Israeli Minister of Heritage in November 2023 about the intention to use nuclear weapons to wipe Gaza off the face of the earth, and the statement of the Israeli Minister of Finance in August 2024 in which he called for the use of starvation, a weapon of mass and silent destruction, to eliminate two million civilians in Gaza.
In this regard, he said: These statements are just examples of the urgent need for the international community to declare with one voice its rejection of these policies and practices that take humanity back to the Dark Ages.
He continued: The international community was encouraged by the issuance of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, which confirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation, and that Israel is pursuing a policy of persecuting the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, and it must end its presence in the Palestinian territories immediately and compensate for the damage it causes.
He explained that the International Court of Justice has recognized that all states must cooperate with the United Nations to put in place the required methods to ensure the end of the illegal Israeli presence in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the full realization of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that this advisory opinion of the principal judicial organ of the United Nations places the responsibility on the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council to seek ways to end the illegal Israeli presence in the occupied Palestinian territory and to fully realize the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including granting full membership to the State of Palestine in the United Nations. It also places the responsibility on the rest of the United Nations organs and agencies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, not to recognize the illegal presence of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory and not to deal with it in any way.
Dr. Al Hammadi said that the member states of the United Nations are required to contribute to the full realization of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, and we urge the states that have not yet recognized the Palestinian state to do so without delay.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed at the end of his statement that the disasters that have befallen humanity in recent decades, whether natural or man-made, have created in the international community the conviction that we are in the same boat, and for the survival and well-being of all, the rule of law must prevail in international relations without exceptions or double standards.
