The World Health Organization renews its demand to protect Gaza’s hospitals: “The extent of the destruction is heartbreaking.”

Ramallah (UNA/WAFA) - The Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the extent of the destruction inflicted on hospitals in the Gaza Strip is heartbreaking, reiterating the demand to protect hospitals and not attack them.

Ghebreyesus said in a post on the “X” platform today, Wednesday, “We conducted, with our partners, an assessment of the situation of Al-Shifa Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza,” stressing that the process of recovering bodies in Al-Shifa Hospital is still continuing..

He pointed out that health workers cleaned the emergency department at Al-Shifa Hospital and removed the burned beds, as the safety of the remaining building still needs a comprehensive engineering evaluation, noting that the Indonesian hospital is empty, and reconstruction work is continuing in an attempt to rehabilitate it..

Ghebreyesus again called for a ceasefire, saying that the main medicine that people in Gaza need is peace..

According to the Ministry of Health, as of February 22, 12 hospitals in the Gaza Strip are partially operating, 6 of which are in the north and 6 in the south, in addition to three field hospitals that are partially operating.

The Israeli occupation forces have continued their aggression against the Gaza Strip by land, sea and air since the 33899th of last October, resulting in the martyrdom of 76664 citizens, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of more than XNUMX others, while thousands of victims remain under the rubble.
