Amnesty International calls for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine and to stop fueling the apartheid regime

London (UNI/WAFA) - Amnesty International stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and stop fueling the apartheid regime and human rights violations.

Amnesty International Secretary-General Agnès Callamard stressed on Monday that the world must realize that ending the occupation is a precondition for stopping repeated human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories..

She added in a statement issued by her that the Israeli occupation of Palestine is the longest military occupation and one of the most deadly in the world, noting that this constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.

She emphasized ensuring that she would not contribute to the perpetuation of the occupation and the apartheid regime, adding that “for 56 years, Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories have been living besieged and oppressed under the burden of brutal occupation, and are subjected to systematic discrimination.”

The statement pointed out that the International Court of Justice ruled that there was a real and imminent risk of genocide, warning of “the catastrophic consequences of allowing Tel Aviv’s crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories to continue with impunity for a long period.”
