Momani: The opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem is a violation of international legitimacy resolutions

Amman (Petra) - The Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs and Official Government Spokesman, Dr. Muhammad Al-Momani, confirmed that the opening of the American Embassy in Jerusalem, and the United States’ recognition of it as the capital of Israel, represents a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution 478, All of which confirm that East Jerusalem is occupied territory and that the issue of Jerusalem is a final status issue, and its fate must be decided through direct negotiation on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions. Momani said: Jordan's position is consistent in rejecting the American decision and considering it non-existent, as it is an invalid unilateral measure that has no legal effect, and Jordan condemns it as most countries in the world reject it, and this was clearly demonstrated in the vote of 128 countries against it in the United Nations General Assembly and in the vote of the Security Council. The majority of member states opposed it. Al-Momani said: East Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state and, as King Abdullah II, the guardian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites there, stressed, it is the key to peace. Momani stressed the need for the international community to join efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions that guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the lines of June 1967, XNUMX, so that peace and security can return to Jerusalem, holy to Muslims, Christians and Jews, and to the region. He added: The Kingdom will continue to make every effort to relaunch effective international action leading to reaching a solution to this conflict and meeting the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people. Momani stressed that Jordan continues to work with the Palestinian National Authority, with our Arab brothers, and with the international community to protect Jerusalem and its sanctities, and to contain the negative consequences of the American decision and limit its repercussions. Momani also warned against the continuation of unilateral Israeli measures aimed at changing the facts on the ground and the continuation of attacks on the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Holy Mosque, and attempts to change the existing legal and historical situation in Islamic and Christian holy sites, which constitutes a provocation to the feelings of Muslims and Christians around the world.
