The Jordanian monarch and the Palestinian president discuss the latest developments regarding Jerusalem

Amman (UNA) – Jordanian King Abdullah II and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met in the Jordanian capital Amman on Monday to discuss the latest developments regarding the occupied city of Jerusalem, bilateral relations and ways to develop them in various fields. President Abbas briefed the Jordanian monarch on the latest developments in light of the continued Israeli escalation. He commended the efforts exerted by Jordan, led by King Abdullah II, in defending the Palestinian cause, supporting the Palestinian people and their just cause, and protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. The Jordanian monarch affirmed that Jordan stands with all its energies and capabilities by the Palestinian people, and defending their legitimate rights to freedom and the establishment of their independent state on their national soil. He also affirmed the continuation of efforts, in coordination with various concerned parties, to revive the peace process and launch negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He said that reaching a just and comprehensive peace is the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and achieve security and stability in the region. He reiterated Jordan's rejection of unilateral Israeli policies and measures and repeated attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing that Jordan will continue to play its historic role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in the Holy City, based on the Hashemite guardianship over them.
