Rabat (UNA/WAFA) – The sixth edition of the International Childhood Summit for Jerusalem will kick off tomorrow, Tuesday, in the Moroccan capital, Rabat. This session is organized at the invitation of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, affiliated with the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, and with the support of the Ministry of National Education, Early Childhood Education and Sports, under the slogan: “For Media that Does Justice to Palestinian Children,” coinciding with the selection of Rabat as the Capital of Arab Media 2026, where its activities simulate an international summit of information ministers with the participation of the children themselves..
Last year’s session was held under the chairmanship of the representative of Turkey, under the slogan: “For the sake of the children of Palestine… there is no alternative to peace.” Participants emphasized “the need for such meetings among children to discuss the issues that concern them, along with their feelings of pain about what is happening to children in Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian territories.”
Preparations for this session include a diverse program featuring educational visits to several departments within the Ministry of Communication and the Higher Institute of Journalism in Morocco (an official institution), as well as artistic and educational workshops supervised by the technical team overseeing the “Haya” platform for children and youth, a platform launched by the agency last year to educate and raise awareness about the values and virtues of Jerusalem..
The current session aims to empower Palestinian children to express their views on the image presented about them by the media, and the extent to which their rights and privacy are respected, in accordance with the principles stipulated in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child..
The session is scheduled to conclude with a plenary session hosted by the Royal Academy of Morocco, in the presence of ministers, diplomatic figures and representatives of international organizations accredited to Morocco, and will include the handover ceremony of the session presidency, speeches by participating delegations, before the announcement of the final statement.
